Load lag at the first fight in a zone
Hey, I'm experiencing some crazy load lag that always happens at the start of the first fight after entering a new zone. It's like as soon as combat starts, my compy says, "oh, hey, I forgot to load all this stuff, hold on a sec." It really stinks when I'm playing as a monk, as I have to explain to all my teammates to watch out for themselves for the first fight. Also, it's a huge disadvantage in PVP. A lot can happen during those 10 seconds when I load in everything.
I was wondering if there was some configuration I could edit that changes the way Guild Wars loads or caches this stuff. Please let me know. Any insight would be appreciated.
...and before you tell me to get more RAM, here's my story. I had 768 megs of ram, but my 512 stick died. I sent the stick back to the manufacturer for a waranty replacement, and all they did was remove the sticker that said "warranty void if removed," and sent me the stick back! Bwah?!?! Never, EVER buy K-Byte RAM. I'm saving up for more RAM, but I'm looking for a fix in the meantime.

Well, I doubt there's much you can do, you just need more RAM. You COULD try increasing the size of your page file, but I doubt that would do any good. If you buy new RAM, try Corsair, I've had to get RAM replaced from them before, they were fast, friendly, and I had my new RAM in under a week I've heard Kingston is good too, but I can't give a personal testimony on that.

Yeah, not much you can do apart from more Ram.
One thing I always do, before i send things back, take a photo of the items you are sending back. If the company just sends the item back in the way they have done to you, you have recourse to do something about it. They won't be expecting you to take photos.

in addition to Dirkiess comment.
buy a sharpie marker and before you send anything back place a small dot with the sharpie marker on the board(no this won't cause problems...and if you're sending it back it's ALREADY dead)...then take pictures of the hardware.
you do need more RAM unfortunately. increasing the size of your page file won't do much more than decrease the size of your hard drive.
also. RAM manufacturers to buy:
Samsung
Corsair
Crucial
stay away from kingtston....apparently everyone likes kingston...even though their RAM is cheap quality.

Hey, thanks for suggesting brands of RAM, but finding a good brand really isn't my problem. I know I have enough RAM to basically run the game as my performance is fine after this happens, I just need to find some way for it to load -everything- when it loads a zone. If GW doesn't have config files to edit that will help me do this, that's a shame, plenty of other games do that were released in the past

Get the Corsair value ram if you're on a budget. You'll save money for quality performance. I got this Corsair value ram PC3200 1gig stick and everything works great. I usually load into a zone before anyone else in my group and experience none of that lag at the start.

I often have this problem to, and memory certainly isn't the issue as I have 1.5GB. It's PC2700, but that shouldn't matter.

you should run a memtest...as memory is absolutely the cause of this problem. I'd venture to say there is something wrong with your memory.

Man, that happens to me. In GvG or the Tombs, it starts to lag when it displays all the team.
